Investors were hit hard during the financial crisis. Many investors had large portions of their investments exposed to the stock market and rode the roller coaster all the way down. Even the bond market seemed like a gamble when corporate bonds were down 15 to 20 percent. With brokers giving little advice other than to hold on and wait, many investors have lost confidence in the system. To compound the problem some sold out when the market was low and have sat on the sideline watching the market come back up.
After being bit by the financial markets, many have decided to simply avoid the worry by putting their money into the safest assets they can find. But finding safety may be more difficult in a post-financial-crisis world.

No doubt all of us have at one time or another in our lifetimes been the victim of an overly enthusiastic salesperson who is somewhat aggressive in their attempts to sell you a business product.
